See the Special Features section for news about the route to Europe from Finland and Norway.
On 06 January 2016 Germany’s Ministry of Interior announced that it had begun using a new system to count arrivals in 2015, rather than the asylum application system. The new numbers indicate that there may have been a larger overall number of arrivals to Europe in 2015 than has to date been detected in countries of transit.
